CASEY JENSEN

CO-FOUNDER

Casey has worked in various aspects of the environmental field since his graduation from James Madison University’s College of Integrated Science and Technology, in 2005. His bachelor of science degree in Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) curriculum required a concentration in a particular field and he elected to jointly pursue two – Environmental Studies and also Applied Geographic Science (GIS) from within the school’s Geographic Science Program.

Upon graduation he was recruited by a multi-national consulting firm for a 12-month position to help implement and integrate a remote groundwater monitoring information system within a GIS application. In the spring of 2006 he was hired by a Virginia – based firm where, as a Land Planner, he specialized in environmental resource impacts and environmental impacts permit resolution. It was at this time that he began designing Wetland and Stream Mitigation projects. It was his familiarization with “Mitigation Banking.”

In the fall of 2007 Casey joined Earthsource Solutions and its subsidiary, the Chesapeake Bay Nutrient Land Trust (CBNLT), to provide project design, project oversight, project management, and regulatory reporting for Wetland and Stream Mitigation Banks. He was fortunate to work with Brent Fults and Scott Reed of CBNLT who, in conjunction with state and federal regulatory agencies, were in the process of developing the Non-Point Source Nutrient Trading Program.

Casey left his dream job at CBNLT in March of 2017 to pursue some personal goals and passions such as to finish a master’s degree in GIS from Penn State University. He was encouraged by his colleagues to not let his practical expertise in GIS nor his knowledge of the environmental field go dormant and thus he formed Eco-Cap, LLC.

Casey spends much of his free time with family and enjoying the outdoors fishing, hiking, or kayaking with his black lab, Mash. He also loves to travel. Typically, he engages in at least one major vacation with his brother each year in which they spend half their time scuba diving and the other half exploring sites of archeological interest.

“A vision without action is merely a dream.”

JT SCHERZER

CO-FOUNDER

JT Scherzer specializes in wetland delineations, ecological restoration, and stormwater compliance. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2015 and began his career at the interdisciplinary consulting firm Balzer & Associates, Inc. The experience collaborating with land surveyors, environmental scientists, engineers, and architects instilled a holistic design perspective that exhibits a sense of place while integrating the natural and built environment. He is a licensed professional wetland delineator with a wealth of field experience across the various physiographic regions of Virginia. His curiosity for the natural world led him to working outdoors from a young age and he spends his free time in and on the water with his wife and family at Smith Mountain Lake, the James River, and Colonial Beach. He enjoys meeting with property owners to identify practical goals for their land and facilitate natural resource management through short-term and perpetual mechanisms in addition to guidance for proposed land use changes. He has permitted land conversion nutrient banks in the state’s water quality trading program as well as mitigation banks to compensate for stream and wetland impacts. His background working with planners and engineers lends itself to providing comprehensive solutions for land development while navigating environmental due diligence and permitting processes. He has extensive experience in wetland delineations and permitting, Chesapeake Bay Resource Protection Area studies, Natural Resource Inventories, Water Quality Impact Assessments, Phase I ESAs, SWPPP inspections, and stream/wetland mitigation. As an environmental consultant well-versed in turnkey land management and development, he is passionate about helping clients achieve their goals through a common-sense approach.
